Projects

Despite not yet having embarked on a dedicated data analysis career, I aim to showcase my capabilities through the projects in my emerging portfolio. While my professional journey primarily rested in analytical chemistry, the parallels between analytical methodologies and data analysis are evident. My tenure involved rigorous data collection, analysis, and reporting, echoing the core principles of data analytics. My experience as a scientist has allowed me to hone my ability to draw insights from complex data, laying a strong foundation for a transition into the realm of data analysis.

Google Advanced Data Analytics Certification

The Google Advanced Data Analytics Professional Certificate equips learners with advanced skills in data analytics, covering a range of topics such as data-driven decision-making, machine learning, and data visualization. Through hands-on projects and real-world case studies, this program deepens expertise in data transformation, modeling, and interpretation using tools like Python, SQL, and Tableau. Learners gain practical experience in leveraging data to drive impactful business insights and decisions, preparing them for careers in analytics-driven industries.

Note: The following three projects are still ongoing. Code currently consists of exploratory data analysis (EDA), statistical analysis, hypothesis testing, and predictive modeling for each dataset, and will eventually include machine learning.

Waze: Development of a churn prediction model to help prevent user churn and improve user retention.

Automatidata: Development of a regression model that helps estimate taxi fares before the ride occurs.

TikTok: Predicting whether a video contains a claim or offers an opinion.

Google Data Analytics Certification

The Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate offers comprehensive training in essential analytical skills, covering data collection, analysis, visualization, and interpretation. Participants learn to harness tools like SQL, R, Tableau, and Excel to gather, analyze, and present data-driven insights. The program includes real-world projects, providing hands-on experience in data manipulation, problem-solving, and decision-making. It's designed to equip learners with the practical skills needed for careers in data analysis across various industries.

Cyclistic SQL Code: SQL code to generate a data table necessary to visualize bike share data in Tableau.

Cyclistic Tableau Vis: Storyboard visualization for the Cyclistic bike share data.

Others

Medical Data Analysis: Python and SQL code for the analysis and interpretation of a medical dataset (data provided by HiCounselor).

UN Food Security: Showcases the creation of two interactive choropleth maps using Python, visualizing world prevalence of undernourishment (%) and the global number of undernourished people (millions).

Public Health Data Analysis: Analysis of a public health dataset using R for analysis, visualization and dashboarding. This is the capstone project for the Data Visualization & Dashboarding with R Specialization Certification, presented by Johns Hopkins University and offered through Coursera.

ETL: Example of an extract, transform and load process using data from a fictional online retailer. This is the final project for the Extract, Transform and Load course from CertNexus.

Tableau Public: My Tableau Public page contains a number of visualizations that were prepared during the various exercises of the certifications I have taken.

About a year ago, I made the challenging yet pivotal decision to step away from my role in chemistry. Uncertain of my next steps, through guidance and introspection I realized that my analytical acumen could seamlessly transition into the realm of data analytics and science. It wasn't just a career shift; it was a conscious choice—a fusion of my skill set with the flexibility to work from home, nurturing my family while continuing to unravel the captivating world of data.

With a rich background in analytical chemistry and extensive research experience in the healthcare and consumer products sector, I bring a unique perspective to the realm of data analytics and science. My journey from a subject matter expert in molecular spectroscopy, protein chemistry, and oil oxidation to a Google-certified data analyst has equipped me with a diverse skill set and an astute analytical mindset. I've honed my ability to handle vast datasets, employing resourceful and creative problem-solving methodologies to derive valuable insights. My expertise spans a spectrum of data tools including Excel, SQL, Python, R and Tableau, facilitating comprehensive data analysis and visualization.

Throughout my tenure at Abbott Nutrition, I leveraged innovative method development and rigorous data collection and analysis techniques to assess, for example, product stability and manufacturing processes. My data-driven studies spearheaded substantial cost savings, such as reevaluating refrigeration necessity during overseas shipping, saving over $500K annually. Additionally, I uncovered inaccuracies in vendor claims resulting in cost savings exceeding $2M yearly. My knack for meticulous data analysis led to the development of innovative approaches, like quantifying allergen levels in infant formula manufacturing equipment, effectively addressing technical complexities and fostering reliable solutions.

My proficiency extends beyond technical analysis—I possess a compelling knack for impactful storytelling and effective data visualization. I've authored published research projects and white papers, effectively communicating intricate technical findings to diverse audiences.
